Welcome to Cloudy’s studio!

I have been debating for a while whether or not I would redo my illustration portfolio once again. Over the past 7 years since I graduated from university, I have rearranged my portfolio website so many times, I can’t remember how many times it’s been.

I was previously hosting my website on Artstation, which was a very easy way for me to update my portfolio on both places at once. I had linked my domain name, and with the PRO subscription that ended up being cheaper than a proper hosting platform, the choice was quite easy for me.

But as time goes on, I realize I have bigger ambitions for my website and the lack of customization made it frustrating to try and do anything other than showcase my artwork on the platform.

Then with everything that has been going on with Artstation, social media, frustrating algorithms, etc, I’ve decided that the good old blog route would be the best way for me to continue sharing my journey and the behind the scenes. Since I’m also starting to seek representation, I think that showing who I am as a person rather than just a bunch of art makes it easier to connect with other people!

Licensing

If you’ve followed my journey for a while, you might know that I have ventured into the Licensing industry. I’ve dedicated a large amount of time to get my business into licensing, I even created an entire website dedicated for it. You can look at my pattern portfolio here . With this new website done and Lissy Marlin’s advice on my old illustration website, it felt like the perfect time for me to revamp this and hope that I don’t have to keep changing it endlessly.

Why Cloudy?

Cloudy is a long-lasting pun with my name that has followed me through the years, unfortunately by my own fault. As I was meeting lots of English speakers and non-French speakers, lots of people would ask me how to pronounce Claudie. I ended up saying to someone that it’s basically like saying Cloudy. Years after, the name Cloudy has persisted and I have just grown to accept it as my whole identity now! So this is why the blog part of my website is called Cloudy’s studio.

New website features and what to expect moving forward

I spent years trying to figure out how to organize my website properly. Now that I have a lot more options at my disposal (thanks WordPress), I’m excited to share the new features. Each project in my portfolio now links to a new detailed page, where I talk about the process of each book along with sketches and more behind the scenes. I also added a direct link to the author’s website or Amazon page to purchase the books. You can also now subscribe to my newsletter (at the bottom of the page) where you will be updated with recent blog updates. I plan to release new articles monthly, although it might vary. But I intend to keep this spam-free as I absolutely hate having constant emails from people that I barely know.

What kind of content will be posted?

As a Children’s illustrator, the process of illustrating an entire picture book takes months. Because of this, I struggle to keep up with social media platforms such as Instagram where everything needs constant attention and brand new content. Now that this is “off-platform”, I intend to post more about the process behind the artwork, awards that we received for past projects, updates on certain projects and what has become of them and a little bit of art-related life updates.

Thanks for following along!
